How much does rendering cost?
Rendering is one of the most cost-effective ways to give your home a makeover, but also to provide it with some added protection without renovating it. Professional house rendering in Brisbane will give your house a fresher look and increase the value of your property. Rendering is typically charged per square metre across the country, but if you’re looking for a more accurate figure based on your home dimensions, check out our cement render calculator. The cost to render a house is around $30 to $50 per square metre for a typical single storey home, but this is an average estimate for the entire country.
Types of rendering for your house
Cement render
Cement render is the most common type of render used across Australia. It is made up of a mixture of sand, cement, and clay, and/or lime and once the render technician puts it all together it’s ready for application. It is the cheapest type of render and it can be applied to feature textured qualities.
Acrylic render
Acrylic render is a more modern type of render application and has grown in popularity over recent years. It has plastic mixed into the typical formula for render and that makes it more durable and resistant to cracking. Acrylic render is also a better option for rendered houses because it offers a larger range of finishes and colour as well as water resistance.
Polymer render
Polymer modified cement render is supplied pre-mixed is more adhesive and comes in a variety of colours. Polymer render is also highly waterproof which makes it perfect for areas with more frequent rainfall.
Bagging render
Bagging is not exactly a type of render but it is similar because it is a type of treatment that is applied to walls. A thin layer of mortar is applied to the face of the surface with some coarse material to give your brick wall a secondary film of protection. It offers a look with more character because it is coarser and bagging render is the cheapest rendering option.
Finding house renderers near me
There may be a couple of professional renderers nearby but you need to make sure that they are properly qualified to do so. We strongly advise against DIY house rendering because it can be dangerous and put your property at risk of damage. There is nothing like the work of licensed professionals to achieve a smooth and uniform application.
Using an unlicensed contractor also comes with many risks but the main concern is that the quality of rendering is unlikely to be as good as the professionals are able to achieve. In Queensland, there are also regulatory considerations involved for homeowners. If the job exceeds anything over $3,000, it is required by law that you use a technician with a trade license.
The team at Rapid Rendering is fully licensed, insured and offers an excellent warranty for all of our house rendering clients in Brisbane. All renderers must be issued a license from The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). The QBCC “Painting & Decorating” is usually all that is needed.
House rendering FAQs
House Rendering
Yes, of course, render can be used on more than just your home’s exterior walls. Some internal walls can benefit from a coat or two. You can use it to add a bit of design flair by creating a feature wall or updating old internal brickwork. But it’s not for all and most people only prefer to have rendering done to the exterior of their house.
This is one of the most exciting features of rendering. All the money that you put into a rendered house project will come back to you because it increases the resale value. Naturally, a house with a newly installed, well-looked after, and modern look would be more appealing on the market than those with imperfect brickwork or uneven walls. Rendering also increases the life of your home because it protects it from the weather and general wear and tears over the years. It works as an additional layer of insulation and effectively stops dampness and moisture from seeping into the walls. All this protection can add years to your home.
You can customize your render by investing in types that come pre-coloured or add some colour by painting it. Painting over render on your home is an excellent addition to the layers of protection on your walls. You will have to wait some time for the render to cure and set after it is applied before painting over it. This can be anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month, depending on what the weather is like in your area.
